John P. Calamos, Sr.
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Global Co-Chief Investment Officer
John Calamos, Sr. founded our predecessor company in 1977. Earlier in his career, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and ultimately earned the rank of major. A pioneer in the use of convertible security investment strategies to help manage risk, he is the author of two books about convertible securities and the author of numerous articles about asset management and economics. Calamos is a trustee of the Illinois Institute of Technology, is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago, and is a member of the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago. Calamos received his undergraduate degree in economics and an MBA in finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
Gary D. Black
Global Co-Chief Investment Officer
Gary Black, Global Co-Chief Investment Officer of Calamos Investments, previously served as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer and founding member of Black Capital, LLC. Prior to that, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Janus Capital Group from January 2006 through July 2009, and President and Chief Investment Officer from April 2004 to January 2006. Prior to joining Janus, Black was Chief Investment Officer of Global Equities at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), which he joined as a partner in June 2001. Prior to this role, Black headed GSAM's U.S. distribution efforts. Previously Black was Executive Vice President and head of Alliance Bernstein's global institutional business. He started his investment career in 1992 at Sanford C. Bernstein where he served as a senior research analyst and was named top analyst in his sector for six consecutive years. Black earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS Economics degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Thomas F. Eggers
Non-Executive Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director
Tom Eggers has been in the financial services industry since 1976. He was most recently the CEO and President of The Dreyfus Corporation and a member of its Board of Directors. He joined Dreyfus in 1996 as President of Dreyfus Investments. In 2002, he left Dreyfus to become President and CEO of Scudder Investments. He then rejoined Dreyfus in 2005 as President and COO and was named CEO the following year. Eggers was a founding member of several industry trade groups including The Forum for Investor Advice. He has served on committees for the Investment Company Institute and was elected to its Board of Governors in 2007. Eggers is also involved in a number of charitable organizations and received the Michael Tenaglia Philanthropic Award in 2008. He received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University.
Richard W. Gilbert
Richard Gilbert has served as an independent director for the Principal Mutual Funds since 1984. He is also an independent director of the Horton Insurance Agency. From 1990 to 1995, Gilbert was chairman and director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. He also has served as a director of Bulkley Capital, L.P. since 1996. Before retiring from active management in 1994, Mr. Gilbert was publisher and chief executive officer of Pioneer Press Newspapers in suburban Chicago; president and chief operating officer of Park Communications, a media company in Ithaca, New York; and president of the Des Moines Register, a family-owned communications company. Gilbert graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
Keith (Kim) M. Schappert
Kim Schappert spent nearly thirty years at JP Morgan Investment Management, advancing from Fixed Income Portfolio Manager to President and Chief Executive Officer. In 2001, Schappert became President and Chief Executive Officer of Federated Investment Advisory Companies, later moving to Credit Suisse as Regional Head of the Americas for Asset Management. Since 2008, Schappert has operated his own consulting business and has served as director on a number of financial industry boards including MetLife Series Trust, Commonfund, Trilogy Global Advisors and Mirae Asset Management. Schappert is a 1973 graduate of Harvard College.
William N. Shiebler
Bill Shiebler was Chief Executive Officer of the Americas for Deutsche Asset Management until his retirement in 2007. Prior to that, he served as Senior Managing Director of Putnam Investments and President and CEO of Putnam Mutual Funds. He also spent twelve years at Dean Witter Reynolds, departing as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Intercapital Division and the firm's mutual fund business. Shiebler has served on a number of corporate and non-profit boards in the U.S. and Europe. He is currently a Board Member of Sallie Mae Bank and is active in a number of other business, community and charitable organizations. He was a Trustee of Scudder Mutual Funds, was a member of the Presidential Commission on Medicaid, is a Trustee of the United States Ski and Snowboard Team, and Chairman of an Advisory Board for medical research at the University of Utah.
